NamePros.com has been down for most of the day… why?

Well, since I got up this morning NamePros.com has been down. It is now 8:10pm US Eastern Time and it is still down. Anyone know what has happened? Are they upgrading? Moving to new servers? Dos attack? I don’t usually frequent this forum / web site, but had a deal pending with a member there and I didn’t get enough information to contact him any other way, so I am curious as to whats going on. Has anyone spoke to any NamePros mods or admins?

**Update** It seems some of the moderators are unsure as to what is going on with NamePros as well, RJ has yet to comment on his twitter, although his last tweet was on the 30th of November, so maybe he is focusing on rectifying the situation rather than twittering (don’t blame him). It is now 11:28pm US East and the forum is still not resolving.

Now, quit asking yourself if NamePros is down and stop hitting refresh to NamePros.com and let’s all be patient :P I am sure RJ is doing everything he can to get NamePros back up asap.

Check out DNForum.com if you need your domain name fix ;)

***UPDATE*** As of 8:36am Us Eastern time, NamePros.com Domain Name Forum is now back up and running. It appears this issue was caused by a change of Nameservers, but as to who changed them and for what reason is unknown. I guess we shall wait for a answer from RJ when he wakes up as I am sure he has been working on this for more than 24 hours.

I don’t “tweet” but you might keep an eye out here, http://twitter.com/DomainBuyer

I’m pretty surprised RJ hasn’t given us at least some sort of update though his Twitter acct.

Hrm, this is pretty strange, I can’t imagine RJ not giving anyone a update. Something has got to be pretty wrong for NP to be down this long and no one has a answer as to why.

I just did a search on Twitter for all the tweets that mentioned NamePros today
and no one knew what was going on, and at least 2 of the tweeters are forum
moderators there. It continues to be a mystery.

site still down… wonder what happened :\

  • Chris Nielsen December 18, 2009

Well, the domain has not expired. If you PING the domain name there is no response. The domain should be on 208.101.31.227 hosted by softlayer.com.

Hmmm, I didn’t check them all, but the first name server for them I tried to ping didn’t responde, but the second one did, so it’s hard to say what’s going on. My feeling is that due to the lack of any PING for the domain and the length of time it’s been down I would say something very serious happend, ranging from 1) a hacked server (which due to the financial transactions that take place, would likely result in a complete shutdown/isolation of the system(s); 2) a failure of one or more servers requiring hardware replace ments AND system restoration, or 3) A physical problem like a fire or other disaster.

Well, I have the most NP there and was the 5th member when the site opened. It is strange that RJ did not at least send an email or put up a notice on the site. To be honest, I am kinda worried. I have multiple projects there. If anyone hears anything, please email me at phil@philfischer.com

Namepros is still down and I have no clue whats going on there. No one knows anything about the forum. As commented by someone above, would it be due to the reasons that the guy mentioned above? Man !!!

    Let’s pray for the good !!! ….

As a founding member of the domain buyers group I can say I have been worried for a while. Things are not all as they seem at NP, in fact control of the most of the group domains have now been taken from RJ as he has let some domains expire.

There was talk that he was sick for a long time but he seems to be well enough to frequent the forums to sell his domains…
